  • LPC-IT stands for Licensed Professional Counselor – In Training, whereas LPC stands for Licensed Professional Counselor. The LPC-IT credential is a provisional license granted to individuals who have completed their graduate degree in counseling and have met the initial requirements for licensure but still need to accumulate supervised clinical experience. During this period, an LPC-IT works under the supervision of a fully licensed LPC or other approved supervisor.

Once the required hours of supervised experience are completed and any additional licensing requirements (such as exams) are met, an LPC-IT can apply to become a fully licensed LPC, which allows them to practice independently without supervision.
